Introduction:

Agadtantra department: Life on the earth is a nature’s gift to mankind. Happy life of man is just not possible without physical & mental health.

Ayurveda- The fundamental science of life is evolved primarily for maintenance of health & to alleviate the suffering of sick individual. Ayurveda defines health as a balanced state of body. Aurveda emphasizes on natural resources for correcting this imbalance. The entire science of ayureda is divided into eight branches, one of these branch is Danshtra i.e. Agadtantra.

The subject “Agadtantra, Vyavhar ayurved Evum Vidhi Vaidyak” means medical alertness as in toxicology i.e. deals with properties, effects and management of poisons of animate and inanimate origin. It deals with study of agadas i.e. vishvirodhi dravya which are used since human history. It also deals with the laws related to poisons. Legal awareness as in forensic medicine i.e. vyavhar ayurved deals with medical aspects of laws. Medical Jurisprudence i.e. vidhi vaidyak deals with legal aspects of medicine.

In Ayurveda special literature is mentioned in agadtantra rather than modern science. Some of these are gara visha, dushi visha, vishkanya, vishdata lakshan, examination of poisonous food with help of birds and animals, 24 modalities of visha chikitsa, visha sankata signs, signs of food mix with poisons etc.

The department deals with Toxicology, Forensic medicine and medical jurisprudence. The department boast of fully fledged state of museum displaying specimen, charts and models show casing relevant faces of medical jurisprudence, forensic medicine and toxicology.
